International Vulture Awareness Day (IVAD) is a global celebration held annually on the first Saturday of September. This is your chance to get involved and make a real difference for these remarkable birds.
Join our mission to raise awareness about these incredible birds. Help us change perceptions, inspire action, and support their conservation efforts.
The first Saturday of September marks International Vulture Awareness Day. Supported globally, with hundreds of organisers and thousands of participants, IVAD aims to raise awareness about the crucial role vultures play in our ecosystems and highlight the urgent need for their conservation.
International Vulture Awareness Day emerged in 2006 from the collaborative efforts of conservation organisations across the globe. Originally initiated by the Birds of Prey Programme of the Endangered Wildlife Trust in South Africa and the Hawk Conservancy Trust in England, this movement has transcended borders and become a beacon of hope for vulture conservation.
Today, International Vulture Awareness Day is championed by the Endangered Wildlife Trust, Hawk Conservancy Trust, and the Vulture Conservation Foundation, on behalf of the Vulture Specialist Group. Hundreds of organisers and thousands of participants have joined IVAD over the years. By joining forces, we amplify the call for vulture conservation, uniting enthusiasts, advocates, and scientists under a common cause.
