The first Saturday of September—this year, 7 September 2024—marks the annual International Vulture Awareness Day (IVAD). We are thrilled to see this global event continue to grow, with hundreds of organizers and thousands of participants coming together to celebrate vultures and support their conservation. IVAD is dedicated to raising awareness about the vital role vultures play in maintaining healthy ecosystems and the urgent need to protect these incredible birds.

About IVAD

International Vulture Awareness Day began in 2006 as a collaboration between conservation organizations worldwide. What started as an initiative by the Birds of Prey Programme of the Endangered Wildlife Trust in South Africa and the Hawk Conservancy Trust in England has since blossomed into an international initiative. Today, IVAD is proudly led by the Endangered Wildlife Trust, the Hawk Conservancy Trust, and the Vulture Conservation Foundation, on behalf of the Vulture Specialist Group. Over the years, our collective efforts have brought together a passionate community of vulture enthusiasts, conservationists, and scientists from around the globe, all united in our mission to protect vultures.

Who Is IVAD For?

International Vulture Awareness Day is for everyone who loves vultures and shares our commitment to their conservation. Whether you’re an individual, part of an organisation, or a professional in the conservation field, there are many ways you can get involved and make a difference.

How Can You Participate?

There are countless ways to take part in IVAD! You can organize local events or launch awareness campaigns. Participation doesn’t have to be on a large scale. For example, you can host a family activity for your children using our game guidelines, or spread the word with our social media toolkit. We also have many more resources available on our page to help you get started. Your involvement, no matter how big or small, contributes to building a global network of vulture supporters.”
