The Association of Ornithological Studies and Ecological Research of Friuli Venezia Giulia APS - in collaboration with the Nature Park of the Julian Prealps, the Nature Reserve of Lake Cornino, the Italian Centre for Ornithological Studies and the Vulture Conservation Foundation - is organizing an international conference on the problem of lead in hunting ammunition and its effects on wild birds, the environment and human health.
The conference will be held in Gorizia on 17 October 2025 as part of the initiatives promoted on the occasion of the event “GO! 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia European Capital of Culture” and will be hosted in the premises made available by the local Administration. Characterized by a high technical-scientific level, it has seen the participation of various institutional subjects and constitutes a meeting point in which Italian and international experts will address the issue of lead in hunting ammunition, investigating and illustrating its consequences both from a wildlife-environmental point of view and from that of human health, also in order to promote and enhance the scientific, environmental, social, cultural and tourist profile of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region.
The following day, October 18, a guided tour will be carried out to the Regional Nature Reserve of Lago del Cornino, where a feeding station for scavenger birds is located, and, subsequently, to the exhibition “The poison after the shot” promoted by the Nature Park of the Julian Prealps and set up at Palazzo Orgnani Martina in Venzone (UD).
Participation in the conference on October 17 is free of charge, while participation in the guided tours on October 18 requires a participation fee.
